Antonio Stradivari (violin) Greffuhle – 1709

This beautifully inlaid violin was part of a commission Stradivari received in 1707 from King Charles IV of Spain (1685–1740), who briefly ruled parts of Spain as Charles III during the War of the Spanish Succession. The request of the King, which consisted of six violins, two tenor violas and a cello for the Royal Orchestra, was outlined by Marquis Desiderio Cleri in a letter to the Cremonese master.
