The violin known as ‘Dancla’ still bears the original label ‘Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1703’, although in the 19th century its date was counterfeit for unknown reasons, as noticed by the violin maker Charles-Eugène Gand: ‘l’étiquette à été changée et porte la date de 1710.’ Nevertheless, Emil Herrmann confirmed a production date of 1710 for this instrument. C. E. Gand was somehow misled by the label and the conditions of the violin as he mistakenly judged it a product of the year 1721.
